4 Reasons Why You Schedule Commercial Carpet Cleaning Services with SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia
You likely schedule daily or weekly office cleaning service to keep your business tidy. However, even with regular sweeping and vacuuming, your carpets can accumulate stains. To ensure your office is presentable, SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia offers expert carpet cleaning service, including spot removal and upholstery stain removal, to get rid of stains that sweeping and vacuuming miss. They also offer dry cleaning service for areas where color-fastness is crucial. Below, they reveal some of the most valuable benefits of regularly having your carpets professionally cleaned.
4 Reasons Why You Schedule Commercial Carpet Cleaning Services
1. To Improve Air Quality
Carpeting collects a wide variety of air contaminants, including dust, pollen, mold spores, and bacteria, that can cause allergy symptoms and exacerbate asthma and other respiratory problems. If not removed, these particles could end up back into the air you and your employees breathe, resulting in a lot of downtime and loss of productivity.
2. To Remove Stubborn Stains
Some stains are extremely persistent and cannot be removed without professional attention. For stubborn, unsightly carpet blemishes, contact the experts at SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia for help. They use powerful cleansers and state-of-the-art techniques and equipment to remove even set-in soils and spatter.
3. To Look Professional
Carpet stains simply don't look professional, and if you invite clients into your offices, they could be turned off by the dirty, grimy appearance. Moreover, even if your customers never enter your premises, the untreated stains could signal that sloppy work or carelessness is acceptable. To avoid sending that type of message, contact a professional carpet cleaning service.
4. To Extend Carpet Life
Deep-down dirt and grime can damage carpet fibers and cause the rug to wear out more quickly than it should. Regular carpet cleaning removes contaminants that cause damage and discoloration and extends the useful life of your office carpeting.

Do you know why SERVPRO trucks are green?
SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia vehicles are very noticeable when we are driving though your community. We have green cars, trailers, trucks and vans too. But have you ever wondered how SERVPRO chose this eye catching color?
In the early 1970s, the founders of SERVPRO® used a color chip paint sample chart to identify the most eye-catching color. It was a highly technical process. The founders showed the chart to as many people as they could and asked, “Which color on this chart would be impossible to miss?” By a wide margin, the color most identified was 1970 rally green, a color used on Porsche 911 automobiles.
Now used on entire fleets of vehicles in every SERVPRO franchise across the nation from production vans to disaster recovery storm trailers, our vehicles are prepared for any size disaster
How to cope with mold with the help of your local SERVPRO!
Let’s face it, the thought of mold will keep you up at night. Some companies use the threat of mold as a scare tactic, often taking advantage of clients who are in a vulnerable position. Mold inspections can be expensive and time consuming, often requiring several days for test results to be returned, but there is no need to panic. We are here to help! The first thing to know about mold is that it can almost always be avoided. When a flood occurs in your residence or business, you need to act as fast as possible. The quicker you respond to the flood, the less likely you are to have a mold problem. CALL A PROFESSIONAL! Treating water damage is a science, and should be left to experts (like us) who are licensed, insured, and highly trained. Often times, people are hesitant to spend the money on a professional restoration company, but ultimately it will save you a lot of money. Improper treatment leads to long term damage, which may *cause mold and other expensive problems. Second, mold testing and mold treatment must be performed by separate companies. If a company finds mold during an inspection, they must hire another company to treat the mold! Failure to do so is a conflict of interest! If you fear that you may have mold from a preexisting problem, contact us here at SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia. We will arrange for a licensed inspector from another company to perform a full inspection, and then we will perform services to remove the mold. After our services are performed, another inspection will be performed to ensure perfection. We ALWAYS guarantee our work! Don't let the fear of mold keep you up at night. How to Keep Your Kitchen Safe From Fires in Cayce/West Columbia
Your kitchen has the potential to be the most dangerous room in your home. It holds many hazards which can cause unintentional fires and burns. There are some basic safety rules you can follow to keep your kitchen free from hazards. If you have experienced a kitchen fire, you need the professional help of our technicians at SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia. We are a trained and experienced fire damage remediation company who has the tools required to restore your home after a fire.
The first thing you should always have in your Cayce/West Columbia kitchen to prevent fire damage is a fire extinguisher in your kitchen. A smoke detector also needs to be installed and maintained regularly. Any cleaning products should be stored away from children, and do not leave a heat source or fire unattended.
Stove and Oven
Clean your range and oven regularly and be thorough. Doing so prevents residual grease and food from catching fire. When you are cooking, keep handles of pots turned inward, away from the stove’s edge. Do not wear loose, long sleeves which can hang over the stove while cooking. Keep your eye on the oven at all times when it is on and ensure it is turned off when you are done cooking.
Flammable items such as dish rags, towels, and curtains should not be near the stove. Also, be cautious with flammable liquids, since a small spark can ignite vapors from these fluids.
Ensure all vents are clear of obstructions and the microwave has enough space for air circulation. Do not put foil or other metals in the microwave oven, as they can create sparks and fires. SERVPRO can help you restore your kitchen back to its former condition after a fire in your microwave.
Do not use appliances which have not been tested and approved by a recognized facility. Keep electrical outlets from being overloaded as well and check for broken or worn wiring on a regular basis. Be sure to make any needed repairs in a timely fashion and keep cords on the counter, so they do not get pulled down accidentally.
Deep Fryers and Frying Pans
The best thing to prevent fryer fires is to use a fryer with a controlled thermostat. Do not allow grease and fat build up in pans or on the stove, since they can easily catch fire. When SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia arrives at your home, we assess the damage first, including any smoke or soot and water damage. Before we begin any remediation, we go over the plan with you so you can understand all that is happening.
SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia is here whenever you need us. If you have experienced a kitchen fire in your home, just reach out to us at (803)755-9774 so we can help you clean up and repair your home.
6 Tips To Limit Storm Damage
Whether you are experiencing a hurricane, tornado, tropical storm, or another adverse weather event, any kind of storm can cause damage. You should be prepared to act quickly in order to stay safe and limit storm damage. Storms cause primary damage in addition to secondary damage such as water damage or mold growth. Here are six helpful storm tips to help avoid the worst issues:
1. Stay apprised of developing weather with weather reports or emergency radio, and plan for your personal safety based on expert recommendations or evacuation orders.
2. If flooding occurs, you should move important items to the highest point in your home to limit the extent of water damage. Sunlight may adversely affect furniture or other delicate items.
3. Install storm shutters or board up the windows of homes in regions prone to hurricanes. You may also secure your roof and siding to the frame of your home with specialized straps
4. Unplug as many appliances as possible and shut off the switches or valves for all utility supplies (gas, water, and power) to your home.
5. Once a storm has passed, try to remove excess water as quickly as possible and allow items to dry. If you air out furniture, keep in mind the risk that direct sunlight or heat may warp furniture, as mentioned previously in these storm tips. Complete the drying process indoors with a dehumidifier.
6. Have a disaster preparedness plan in place. Your family should be ready to execute an evacuation strategy and meet up in a sheltered location agreed upon ahead of time. Gather and store important documents in a safe place in case you need to grab them and evacuate.
These storm tips are intended to help you limit the extent of storm damage to your home in Cayce/West Columbia, SC. After the bad weather passes, bring SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia restoration experts on the scene to restore your home to pre-disaster condition.
Thunderstorm Safety and How to Prepare
Thunderstorms can happen anywhere and they have the potential to be extremely dangerous. The typical thunderstorm is 15 miles in diameter and lasts an average of 30 minutes; nearly 1,800 thunderstorms are happening at any moment around the world! Although thunderstorms can occur year-round they are more common during the spring and summer months.
WATCH VS. WARNING
- A watch is issued when conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms in and around the watch area. It does not mean that a thunderstorm will occur, only that it is possible.
- A warning is issued when severe thunderstorms are occurring or imminent in the warning area.
- Build an emergency kit and make a family communication plan.
- Keep dead or rotting limbs trimmed to prevent them from falling during a storm.
- Do not hesitate to postpone outdoor activities.
- Secure outdoor objects that could blow away or cause damage.
- Shutter your windows and secure outside doors.
- Unplug any electronic equipment well before the storm arrives!
If your home or business is damaged from a storm call SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia at 803-755-9774.
3 Reasons Why You Should Never Use Bleach To Clean Mold
Chlorine Bleach is often regarded as the answer for stopping mold growth and removing the mold. However, this is a myth. Bleach does not exonerate mold. Here are three reasons why bleach is not the answer to mold, and should never be used to clean a mold contaminated area.
1. Bleach Loses Effectiveness Over Time
Chlorine bleach can dissipate rapidly, causing the bleach to be less effective. Over time this occurs because chlorine can evaporate and even faster in areas that are above room temperature. When the chlorine disappears, the bleach bottle turns into a bottle of salt water.
2. Bleach can actually contribute to mold growth
Chlorine bleach was made to clean surfaces, therefore can only kill surface bacteria and mold. This is due to bleach’s ion structure, which prevents the chlorine from penetrating porous material such as wood and drywall. When mold grows in porous areas, the enzyme’s roots grow deep within the material, rendering the bleach ineffective of exterminating the mold. The bleach can only remove the green stain from the mold, allowing surface to appear clean. But underneath the surface, the water component of the bleach penetrates and helps the internal roots to continue to grow, causing mold to reappear.
3. Bleach is Toxic
Bleach emits harmful fumes that pollute the air we breathe and can become harmful to humans and even pets. Over a period of time, inhaling the gases bleach emits can deteriorate the lungs and esophagus lining in addition to the scarring of the respiratory tract, which occurs in earlier stages. Also research shows that household bleach is one of the leading causes of accidental poisonings in the United States.
Here in Cayce and West Columbia, South Carolina, the risk of having mold in your home is a lot higher than other states. Why? Two words....heat and humidity. Mold thrives in dark, moist areas, and South Carolina's humidity only helps that process. That's why if you experience a water damage and don't take care of it the right way and in the first 48 hours; mold will begin to grow.
Why We Do Not Test For Mold-We Only Remediate
You would think a company that remediates mold would also do the testing of mold right? Well we do not and here are our reasons why.
Given that we are a Cleaning and Remediation Company, we have determined that being certified to be an Industrial Hygienist(IH) is veering too far from our profession. Mold remediation and mold testing require different sets of training, certifications, and professional equipment. For remediation purposes, the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) offers a course called,Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT). In this course technicians learn how to properly remediate mold, but not test for it. For testing purposes, you must have a 4 year bachelor’s degree in the particular field as well as specific IH courses.
In addition, a company that does both testing and remediation of mold could potentially appear to be skewing test results in order for their remediation to pass. To avoid this, we not only have another company do the testing but we also have the customer call in the IH rather than bringing them in ourselves as a subcontractor of our services. This ensures that the IH is working for the customer’s best interest.
So where do you start?
If you believe that you have a mold problem your first step is to find the source and stop it. Next, we would recommend that you call in an Industrial Hygienist to come out and test the area. A protocol will be written based off of the testing and if you do indeed have a substantial amount of mold present that needs to be remediated that is where SERVPRO of Cayce/West Columbia comes in. With the protocol in hand we are able to properly assess the area and determine the extent as well as type of cleaning that will be needed to get your home or business back to preloss condition.
